Session Details

Dental trauma often arrives without warning, sometimes after hours, or in the middle of a packed schedule. Traumatic dental injuries can disrupt even the best-planned clinic day, and the first few minutes often determine the outcome.

Led by the Team Dentist for the Calgary Flames, this session provides a straightforward, real-world guide to managing common dental trauma including fractures, luxations, avulsions, and soft-tissue injuries. Participants will learn how to assess and manage after-hours calls, organize the appointment flow, perform essential assessments, and stabilize injuries. The focus is on practical decision-making and giving the entire dental team the tools to act quickly, calmly, and effectively

Learning Objectives

  • Manage the initial phone call by guiding patients or parents through simple, immediate steps that can improve long-term outcomes before they arrive at the office.
  • Perform an efficient assessment and appointment workflow including practical tips for radiographs, clinical evaluation, and organizing the flow of the visit.
  • Deliver effective treatment and post-operative instructions with straightforward strategies the dental team can apply to support healing and reduce complications.
